Named the Alexandre Dumas International Library of Gastronomy in recognition of the man who we believe was one of the pioneers of gastronomy in Europe, the library of the Basque Gastronomic Brotherhood has over 1,000 works already cataloged, and another 5,000 waiting to be processed. Twenty years ago, it was all in boxes, but since then there have been several different librarians who have carried out the painstaking work of archiving it all.
The Brotherhood was founded to preserve the traditions in which those original gastronomes believed. A key element of that work has been to develop this priceless culinary library, donated by former members and their families, and which is now in their hands.
