The Mangrove Restaurant was founded in 1968 by Frank Crichlow. After a series of raids by the police on the establishment in 1969, it rapidly became a symbol of resistance among the black community, who were fighting against police brutality and racism. It would later become one of the country's leading political organisations campainging for the rights of black people in Britain.
