Sketch of part of a relief frieze portraying the life and works of Jesus, commissioned 1817 by the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig for a church it was intended should be built near the Glyptotek in Munich. Quite a large number of Thorvaldsen’s sketches from this time were at first done in a tentative, gentle pencil stroke later completed in ink or Indian ink.
