The Market in Nuremberg

This painting by Lorenz Strauch shows a view of Nuremberg's Main Market Square from the south. In the center of the square, women offer produce from the city's environs for sale on the ground. Farther to the rear are the sellers of poultry, lard and eggs, who bring their wares to the market in a carrying basket or wheelbarrows. In the Herrenmarkt area to the left we see black-clad wholesalers making their deals.
