In the 1840s, Charles Munchen is a member of the lodge Les Enfants de la Concorde Fortifiée. In 1848, he founds a military lodge in Echternach called Espérance. Besides his brother Alphonse, other officers of the Luxembourg contingent stationed in Echternach in 1848 will also join the new lodge.
