Childe Hassam produced numerous views of the city and countryside during his successful career. In the fall of 1903, Childe Hassam visited fellow American impressionist J. Alden Weir at the artists’ colony at Cos Cob, Connecticut. That same year, Hassam was included in the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, demonstrating both his international popularity and the French recognition of American impressionist artists. This energetic composition, with its swift strokes, areas of saturated bright colors, and the velvety quality of pastel captures the fleeting effects of weather and movement.
