On his theological and religious journey and in his exploration of the more significant sources of popular religiousness, Garbari meets Saint Anthony. Among the many episodes available, he paints the conversion of the non-believer who had challenged the Saint to demonstrate with a miracle the presence of Christ in the consecrated host. The story relates that the heretic kept his mare mule without food for a few days and then took her to the square and placed her in front of some oats. At the same time, Anthony was supposed to place the host in front of the mule, and if she knelt down before the host, and neglect the food, the non-believer would have converted. And that is what happened.
