The 27th National Exhibition of Art, 1981
1st Prize, Gold Medal Award in Prints
The National Exhibition of Art is the oldest national competition stage of Thailand that has been organized constantly until now. It aims to encourage Thai artists to produce painting, sculpture, prints and multimedia works which present their artistic skills. Gold medal, silver medal and bronze medal award-winning works will become the property of Silpakorn University, who reserves the right to promote works in all channels.
Prayat Pongdam, a National Artist in Printmaking in 1998 as well as the 15th Artist of Distinction in 1989, was one of the pioneers of printmaking in Thailand. He has won countless awards from his printmaking work which carried distinguished elements, explicitly exhibited technical skills and concepts of simple ways of life in Thailand. The artist featured the shapes of humans and animals which could be seen in almost every work piece he has created. What made his work distinct from others are the eyes of those animals which were mostly accented with a gold color like a shining star at the break of dawn, the faces of humans which were noted for having closed eyes or looking down, and the lines and colors which give simplistic, warm, and charming tones.
