The museum’s entrance hall

This photograph of the entry hall of the museum was taken after 1928, as attested by the bust of the museum’s first director, Georg Thilenius, which is visible in the left of the image. The photo demonstrates the effect that Thilenius sought in the architectural design, the light-flooded staircase in the rear contrasting markedly with the hall’s darker front section.
