The Music

Realized for the waiting room of duke Odoardo Farnese’s (1612-1646) bedroom in the Garden Palace in Parma, the two female figures, located in elegant architectural niches, represent two allegories: Astronomy – who follows the evolution of the stars with a compass, a sextant and an armillary sphere, an ancient instrument used to reproduce the circles of the celestial sphere – and Music, who holds an ancient Egyptian instrument to determine the notes by the length of the strings.
