The Nationalist Revival

The newly set up Dutch education system backfired when the new intellectuals were exposed to ideas of nationalism and modemisation that were widespread in Europe. Students of School Tot Opleiding Van Indische Artsen STOVIA (Medical School for the Natives ) - among them Sutomo, Gunawan Mangunkusumo, Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo - set up the first modern organization in Indonesia, Budi Utomo.
