The Nativity

This engraving by Albrecht Dürer bears the date and artist's monogram on the hanging sign located in the upper lefthand corner of the print. The scene depicts Mary and the baby Jesus in the loggia on the left with a praying shepherd looking on, while Joseph is drawing water from the well. Although there are figures in the print, it is very much an architectural study, as the figures are secondary to the structures.
