Master Virgile and Limbourg brothers1404

Château de Chantilly

Château de Chantilly
Chantilly, France

The opulent frontispiece of this Golden Legend was once attributed to Paul de Limbourg, before being returned to the Master of Virgil. The latter employs the iconography of the Virgin and Child in Glory, blessed by God the Father and surrounded by the multitude of saints in Paradise, also used by the Limbourg brothers. Indeed, God the Father blessing, surrounded by seraphim, is reused by the Limbourg brothers in their Nativity in the Très Riches Heures.
