This oil painting shows the Old Stocks Market in London, which sold fruit and flowers. In the foreground left, a small carriage is standing and a dog barks towards figures in the market. In the centre of the painting can be seen the equestrian statue of Charles II erected by Sir Robert Vyner (Goldsmith, Banker and Lord Mayor) in 1672. In the background is the dome and white, stepped tower of the church of St Stephen Walbrook.
The Old Stocks Market stood on the site of the present Mansion House (pre-1779).
