The Omega spectrometer

1977

CERN

CERN
Geneva, Switzerland

The Omega spectrometer in the West Hall works with a range of beams, available from the SPS, which include high energy polarized photons. High energy photons are very high frequency light. Omega is surrounded by additional apparatus but is always identifiable thanks to the characteristic "igloo" surmounting its central superconducting magnet.
