Buxton Opera House is located in the Derbyshire town of Buxton. It was designed and built in 1903 by Frank Matcham and its programme included Shakespeare, touring West End performances, ballets and comedies. In 1927 it became a cinema which closed in 1976. The Opera House was restored and reopened in 1979, with a new orchestra pit added to the original Frank Matcham design. Further restoration over the years has maintained and enhanced its Edwardian splendour.
