The optical microscope

The Dutch scientist Antonie van Leeuwenhoek made his first observations through a simple microscope, initially with just little magnification. He eventually managed to make lenses which gave up to 250 times magnification, enabling him to observe and for the first time descibe numerous microorganisms.
