The original church on this site was built in 1203. The present Church of St Martin was built in circa 1480. The upper part of the tower and the east end were added in 1870.

In the churchyard is the tomb of Rasselas Belfield, described as 'a Native of Abyssinia' and 'A slave by birth'.
