The subject of Drummond’s painting depicts a man and woman seated on a bench. The man is seen reading a newspaper and the woman is faced towards him. Two other younger male figures look on from the left. The scene is set within a town environment with large buildings in the background. The painting uses muted yellows, greens, oranges and greys to suggest an afternoon light with clouded haze.
