The profile of a fortress shows all significant parts of the defences: the terreplein (H-G) the place for the cannons, the banquette (F-E) where the infantry stood shooting over the parapet (D-C), the scarp revetment (B-A) and the second ditch (A-q) followed by a smaller banquette with parapet, the first ditch (c-d) with the counterscarp revetment (d-e).
