“Art is the radical voice of civilization,” said Harry Belafonte in a 2017 lecture. He emerged as a strong voice during the civil rights movement. Belafonte and Tony Bennett, two of the biggest stars of the time, were among thousands who marched from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, on March 25, 1965, in support of civil rights. Bennett had this bust sculpted for Belafonte’s birthday in 2017, saying, “He has been such a dear friend and inspiration to me for so many decades that I sculpted this bust of him and called it ‘The Patriot.’”
