Carolina Caycedo is a multidisciplinary artist known for her performances, videos, artist’s books, sculptures, and installations. Her works showcase territorial resistance, environmental justice, and solidarity economies through an embodied knowledge and indigenous and feminist frameworks in order to confront the colonial gaze. In this selection of Puerto Rico-related works from the Distressed Debt series, Caycedo demonstrates the symbolic power of the images used to sell bonds to investors and, eventually, to predatory hedge funds: distressed debt investors who prey on debtors by buying cheap bonds on the secondary market while expecting large returns.
