This photograph shows the Peral submarine, abandoned following the rejection by the then-new Navy Minister Beránger. Despite the fact that the submarine had successfully passed its tests, the new Technical Commission cobbled the project by applying a series of nearly-impossible conditions, specifically aimed at shelving the project. The submarine remained in storage at La Carraca Naval Base.
In 1913, its destruction was ordered, but not carried out. It was taken to Cartagena in 1929, at the request of Admiral Mateo García de los Reyes, founder of the Spanish Submarine Branch.
