This landscape photograph shows Isaac Peral’s submarine ready to be launched from Dock One of La Carraca Naval Base in San Fernando, Cádiz. Measuring 72 feet in length, 7.78 feet at its beam, and 9.06 feet in height it, had 2 Inmisch electric motors (each one 30 cv), 2 horizontal and 2 vertical shafts, and one 18-inch torpedo tube at the prow with 3 Schwartzkopff torpedoes.
The submarine had innovations that meant it could be used for underwater navigation and as a weapon of war. It was significantly more advanced than its predecessors, both in Spain and elsewhere, and set the standard for the development of underwater weaponry.
