<arctic perspective initiative>( 2014-present) is a participatory work for the Arctic and local community’s autonomous governance which are affected the first by the global climate changes, and it shows geopolitical special traits, and strategy and cooperation regarding realities of local communities. The draft of Phoenix declaration was written in the meeting which was held for 3 days in HMKV at the Phoenix, Halle of Germany. In the meeting, global scholars and leaders, and artists who cover Arctic region, geopolitics, and residents. They discussed culture, ecology, technology, autonomy, and traditional knowledge while intertwining various perspectives and themes with the grand theme of sustainability of the Arctic region. In the draft of the declaration, the importance of the Arctic region in maintaining the global order, and the significance of cooperation with residents who have lived for thousands of years in the region. API Arctic region map which was completed through collaboration with LABOR B and API, German design organization, shows activities of the past and present of API, and convergence point, interest and dispute points in the Arctic region.
<ᓯᕿᓐᓇᓂᖅ siqinnaaniq(horizons)>(2017) was initially commissioned for the 2013 Festival Access under the theme ‘Digital Suns’, and is a re- edit of Arctic Perspective Initiative collected footage and audio field recordings from collaborative field exchanges. The soundtrack was developed through the processing of audio field recordings and reinterpretation from the same period by Pierce Warnecke on the occasion of Emitter Micro.
Marko Peljhan is an artist whose works include theater production and direction, radio direction, concept art, and research activity. He directly or jointly founded Projekt Atol which has continued its works since 1990s and many art organizations such as Ljudmila which is known as the first media lab in eastern Europe. He received the 2001 Golden Nica Prize at Ars Electronica together with Carsten Nicolai. He serves as professor and director of the MAT Systemics Lab at the University of California Santa Barbara, the coordinator of international cooperation of the SPACE-SI Slovenian Centre for Space Sciences and Technologies and editor at large of the music label rx:tx. In the radio spectrum he is known as S54MX.
Since the first exhibition in 1990, Matthew Biederman has shown artworks encompassing various media and social environment, form and system, and community and continent. Biederman interprets the reality in which perception and policy are delicately intertwined through light, sound, and space. Through API which was jointly founded with Marco Pelijhan, he has served as artist-in-residence at a variety of institutions and institutes, including the Center for Experimental Television on numerous occasions, CMU’s CREATE lab, the Wave Farm of New York state and many more.
