"Daubsters is the slightly pejorative name the general public calls painters and it is the title used for the rather humorous portraits painted by the group of artists who helped decorate the bar that specialises in beers, Cerveseria Cau Ferrat, in Sitges.
Càndid Duran (Cervera, 1867 - Madrid, 1896) painted the group of artists on the beach, with their brushes tied to long sticks as if they were house painters and they are standing in a line headed by Santiago Rusiñol, dressed in white, followed by Duran himself, Antoni Almirall, Arcadi Mas i Fondevila, Joaquim de Miró and Miquel Utrillo. They are accompanied by Love, Rusiñol’s little dog, and behind them is a trail of blue and white paint that is overflowing from the buckets.
It is surprising to see the distended manner in which the figures are treated. Their freshness is usually associated with the drawing technique rather than oil painting."
