The Pity of Angels The Pity of Angels, overview

Baths of Diocletian

Baths of Diocletian
Roma, Italy

The fresco is placed in the northeast ambulatory of the small cloister of the Charterhouse; inserted into a moulding stucco frame, it depicts dead Christ supported by three angels. On the left there is San Bruno, founder of the Carthusian Order, on the right Pope Pius IV, who promoted the creation of the Charterhouse within the Diocletian Baths complex. The fresco is attributable to the School of Daniele da Volterra and dates back between to 1565 and 1577.
