This original prompt script from 1926 survived the Abbey Theatre fire of 1951. This opening page shows the dramatis personae as listed by O'Casey and includes some manuscript amendments by him. The play centres around the events in the months leading up to and during Easter Rising 1916 as experienced by the inhabitants of a tenement house in Dublin city. The premiere of the play in 1926 met with opposition from many, including the widows of rebels killed in 1916.
