The Sejm - Polish Parliament

The graphics present the sittings of the merged chambers of the Sejm, in the realistically depicted Senatorial Hall of the Royal Castle in Warsaw, reconstructed by Jan III. The interior of the room, depicted in perspective, on the sides, the senators sit in three rows, behind them, under the windows, there are two rows of standing deputies. In the background, the king on the throne surrounded by dignitaries, in the foreground stands, between the empty seats of dignitaries, the deputies' marshal, speaking welcome speech to the throne on behalf of the assembled deputies. The plaque comes from the work of Bernard Connor (actually OʼConnor) "Beschreibung des Königreichs Polen und Gross-Hertzogthums Litthauen...", Leipzig 1700. The figure is a repetition of an earlier representation, an engraving by Charles de la Haye (1641-po1712) on the title page of Mikołaj Chwałkowski's work "Effata regum Poloniae usque ad Joannem Casimirum...", published in Warsaw by the Piarists (1694).
