Carlos Reis was born on 21 February 1863, in Torres Novas and died in Coimbra on 21 August 1940. Disciple of Silva Porto in the School of Lisbon; in 1889, moved to Paris as boarder of the Portuguese State and was helped by the King Carlos; was student of the famous portraitist Bonnat and P.J. Blanc, official decorator. In 1895, returned to Portugal, to compete, in the following year, with Ramalho and Artur Melo to teach the class of Landscape, in the School, vacant by the death of Silva Porto. Naturalist painter, opting for popular and rural motifs, as preferred by this artist of aristocratic line, noblest figure and elegant spirit as he was characterized. Confirms the unyielding energy, the unmistakable talent, the formidable brush of Carlos Reis, artist from Silva Porto’s Group, admired and protected by King Carlos.
