The Portuguese arrived in Japan, on the island of Tanegashima. in em 1542 ou 1543. Japan has been known since the time of Marco Polo, who called it Cipango. But the Portuguese were effectively the first Europeans to arrive in Japan, inaugurating the trade intermediated by the Portuguese, using the wagon to transport large loads.
