In December 2019, the Citizen Amendment Act, popularly known as CAA, was given the assent by the President of India, after being passed by the Parliament. This led to widespread protests by Muslims, citing that the CAA amendments grant a swifter path of citizenship to all religious minorities except the Muslims.
The social impact of Qawwali as an art form for resistance was visible at the protest site where this highly adaptive form of music was passionately sung by Qawwal Sarvjeet Tamta.
