The Dutch Garden was first planted under the direction of the Portman family Head Gardener, Mr A. (Albert) Hubbard, ‘late Foreman at Blenheim Palace Gardens’, in March of 1907, principally using plants sent by Gertrude Jekyll from her Munstead Wood Nursery. Prior to 2010, it had only been replanted twice in its history in 1973-77 (Somerset County Council) and in 2001 (Somerset County Council & The Hestercombe Gardens Project).
