The rediscovery of The Georgian Theatre Royal pit

In 1948, an eminent theatre historian, Richard Southern, rediscovered the theatre pit and the under stage area. This had been covered up and the area used as a wine vault. This photograph shows the pre-restored pit with the flooring removed.
