Ship Iris, chartered by Nilo Peçanha for the Reação Republicana campaign. The passenger and small package ship was regularly used in coastal navigation, between the north and south of the country. Built in 1891, it weighed 1,430 tons and belonged to the Lloyd Brasileiro Shipping Company. Chartering ships was common practice at the time. The freight cost would be paid, in part, for the loading of goods, which would continue to be carried out during the trip.
