The Restaurant at the End of the World is a speculative proposal for a New Zealand pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. It can be seen as a critique of the rhetorical role of architecture in representing how New Zealand is seen on the global stage – whether as picturesque tourist destination, pliable barrier-free trading partner or remote green Eden. It poses questions about national borders, corporate regulation and jurisdictional law in our post-colonial, post-national market economy. (text: Charles Walker, Future Islands catalogue)
