The River System

It is very important to consider how waterfalls fit into the whole river system. They are usually found where the river is flowing faster near the source over different types of rock. Imagine water running over a hard band of rock (Whin Sill) and then over a softer band of rock (limestone). The soft rock is worn away, leaving the hard rock above it and forming a waterfall.
