During the late 1920s and 1930s, Bugbee exhibited three major paintings as a kind of “triptych” of cowboy life: THE ROPE CORRAL, BRANDING, and THE CHUCKWAGON. This museum owns two of the three paintings, THE ROPE CORRAL and BRANDING.

Bugbee constructed this painting using both studies of different parts and sketches of the overall composition.
