Stella Rahola (Barcelona, Catalonia, 1980) is an artist with a background in architecture. This training has given her an interest in space, construction and the capacity of materials to transform themselves. Using disused craft techniques and processes, such as borosilicate glass, which is then blown and mirrored with silver nitrate, she creates uncomfortably fragile installations and sculptural pieces through spatial, situational encounters. The continued use of borosilicate glass permeates between craft and science, and opens up possibilities for forms of coexistence that imply a sustainable contingency.
Rahola studied architecture at the ETSAB (UPC) in Barcelona and holds a Master’s degree in Projects also from the ETSAB and Fine Arts from Goldsmiths University, London. She has exhibited in numerous national and international venues, including the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona, the MACE in Ibiza, and the LA Contemporary Art Fair in Los Angeles, among many others. In 2021 she received the Vila Casas Foundation Sculpture Award.
