The silk floss tree (Ceiba speciosa) is a large deciduous tree that can reach a height of 30 meters. It has a singular trunk full of conical thorns and, as an adult, it stores water in its trunk, making it wider at the base and pear-shaped.
It is native to South America (Brazil, Peru and Argentina) where it grows in tropical and subtropical forests in humid places.
Located in the Cactus and Succulent Garden, this tree is one of the Botanical Garden's remarkable trees.
