Dante Broglio (1873-1954) is considered the best engraver from Verona of the first half of the 20th century. From his earliest works, he showed a particular vocation for drawing intended as graphic trace, and continued to study the ancient and contemporary engraving heritage with increasing accuracy. Giovanni Battista Piranesi and Rembrandt became his favourite models. His works introduce a lyrical understanding of landscape seen as a subject in its physical and historical aspect, developing the subject with great creativity. The etching "The Sophora of Saint Roch" is an example of his precise technical quality and constant research in the field of engraving.
