The Sounds of Light

Naziha Mestaoui & Huni Kuin

Cidade Matarazzo

Cidade Matarazzo
Sao Paulo, Brazil

A sound-light installation in which the artist stokes our perceptions by blending Huni Kuin paintings with harmonic poetry. The Huni Kuin, or Kaxinawa, are the largest indigenous tribe in the Amazonian state of Acre and are distributed throughout the borderlands with Peru. Huni Kuin means ‘the true people’. Though considered a single nation, there are political, cultural and social singularities among the 12 existing communities.
Naziha Mestaoui’s art is an innovative combination of images and technology that results in immersive, sensitive installations. She is a founding partner of Electric Shadow, a pioneering digital art group created in 2000.
