City As Museum is a project that attempts to rethink
the expanded concept of “museum”–
museum without walls, museum in the size of the
city, experimenting when geo-physical context and the
historical (cultural) content together forming hybridised
experience of the city.
Vanished temples, city gates and ruins of famous literati’s
residencies, layered with oral history... memories are
the subjective interpretations of the (common/personal)
historical events, which can never preserved in some
“official” historic books written by few as the only one
correct version. It’s subjective, comes with multiple
threads of narratives and it’s
ever changing, the preservation with previous form of
carved intones or printed in classic texts now is happening
in an ongoing course of refreshment, regeneration. City
is not only the backdrop or physical settings of events and
stories, it’s an active party in creating the new reality.
In “Space Time Warp of memories” , we propose an
alternative “time” and “space co-relation.” In this project
we super-impose and inject a few scenarios captured in
one of the old city quarters of Beijing - Baitasi into the
given site of Venice. By playing with the distortion of time
like slowing
down, speeding up, plus focusing only the auditory sense
by depriving visitors from visual stimuli etc…with the help
of Virtual Reality technology which is capable to create
such space( sensory vacuum ), to create experiential
displacements (offset) for visitors of “where” and “what”
to experience in the face of local context.
You are all set!
