The Star was the first popular statuette Harriet Whitney Frishmuth made. Cast in an edition of 81 it was so popular that in 1923 she made an enlarged version. The style predates her more lyrical period and is in the classical vein. The female form stands with her feet flat on the floor, back arched, reaching heavenwards with one arm as if to snatch a star from the sky. The Gorham Company catalogue of 1928 described it as "a beautiful expression of human aspiration."
