A Self-statement of The Stone of Dream
I don't know how I came here. I just know that I am from a distant mountain, like the numerous sandstones on the edge of the Huangpu River, and I have slept for dozens and hundreds of years here. Here, we have witnessed the vicissitudes of Shanghai.
The Expo, which would be held in Shanghai in 2010, has turned the factory on the riverbank into a large construction site for modern exhibition venues. I was dug out by a huge excavator from underground,
waiting to be transported to another place.
At this time, I was selected by an artist who took me to his studio from the sandstone pile on the construction site. After a series of scans and computer processing, my body was magnified many times and became the structure of steel.
The magnified me was put back where I was discovered at first. It has completely changed from the original messy mound to the beautiful center of the Expo axis. People from China and around the world surround and look at me, wondering how I was transformed from a small piece of gravel into a huge and beautiful outdoor sculpture.
“I display the vicissitudes of Shanghai by silence.”
