Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano
Milano, Italy

Stained-glass window V44 of Milan Duomo was commissioned by the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo to the Hungarian artist Giovanni Hajnal (Budapest, 27 August 1913 - Rome, 9 October 2021). It was made in 1955 together with two other stained-glass windows intended for the Cathedral's counter-façade. The work depicts the theme of the Synagogue which, according to iconographic tradition, is presented with the features of a blindfolded young woman, as she was unable to recognise the Messiah, Jesus Christ. The Synagogue is located between Cain and Abel, above which we find scrolls with the Star of David and various Jewish religious symbols.
