The bulging hull, the warlike bow, and the exuberant rigging make the "muleta" our country's most peculiar traditional fishing vessel. Initially, the term "muleta" was applied to several boats, associated with fishing with a tartaranha net only after the 16th century. It is a symbol of the municipalities of Seixal and Barreiro, appearing in their heraldry.
