The Trolley Barn was completed and opened in 1889. One of the few remaining structures from
the era when trolleys were a significant form of transportation in Atlanta, The Trolley Barn is an
outstanding example of rustic Victorian commercial architecture with its turret, clerestory window,
and trussed arches.
By the late 1960s, the Trolley Barn and larger Inman Park neighborhood were in significant decline, resulsitng from population loss and highway construction and the increased use of the automobile. In the early 1970s, the Trolley Barn was in such a state of neglect that the City of Atlanta condemned the historic building. However, a neighborhood movement ultimately formed to save the Trolley Barn by forming a non-profit.
Today, the Trolley Barn has been restored and is a neighborhood community, meeting, and events space.
