"This quilt is based on the artwork in the book 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret' by Brian Selznick. I am a member of the Cover to Cover Book Club, which reads two books annually and then the members make quilts about something representing that book. I first sketched several pictures that reflected the story, then used a light box to race each picture onto solid white fabric. Each block was then layered with batting and a solid black backing and thread-painted. I used whatever brand thread I could find that gave me the range of black to white value I wanted; to get a black-and-white photo look. I made the quilt to be viewed from both sides."
