The Asian-African Conference Archives contains documents, pictures and films from the Conference in Indonesia from 18-24 April 1955. It was the 1st international assembly of Asian-African nations (29 countries), whose aim was to promote world peace and cooperation, and freedom from colonialism and imperialism. It set the path towards establishing the Non-Aligned Movement, which served as a balance between two conflicting superpowers during the Cold War. It’s Final Communique, “The Ten Principles of Bandung”, recognized the urgency of promoting economic, cultural and political cooperation among and beyond Asian-African nations, and of achieving freedom.
